Under administrative direction of the County Administrative Officer and/or the Assistant County Administrative Officer, this position supervises a major program area in the County Administrative Office; plans, organizes, and coordinates budgetary and financial planning, administrative and managerial operations, and fiscal monitoring activities; and performs other duties as assigned.

The Deputy County Administrator is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the fiscal, legislative, and/or strategic planning activities of the County, which may include directing the development of the County budget, evaluating fiscal and budgetary procedures and policies, and coordinating the fiscal activities of all County departments to assure maximum effectiveness of County resources.


Summary of Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain these would be:

• Graduation from a recognized college with a major in business administration, public administration, management, finance, economics, accounting or a related field, AND four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a private or governmental agency with responsibilities in administration or financial analysis, including: systems, procedures and program evaluation

• A masters degree is desirable, and may be substituted for one (1) year of experience

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the assigned work, which requires initiative, judgment, discretion, and the ability to make independent decisions within established policies and procedures set forth by the Board of Supervisors, County Administrative Officer, and Federal, State & County laws, ordinances, and regulations.

Salary Range: $144,852 - 194,016 Annually

Benefits: Medical, Dental and Vision

Medical coverage is available through CALPERS with the County paying a majority portion of the cost for the employee and dependents. The cost of the dental plan is entirely County-paid for employees and dependents. The County pays for the cost of an employee vision plan and the employee may purchase dependent coverage.


Retirement and Social Security

Pension formula 2% at age 60 or 2% at age 62 as determined based on provisions of the CA Public Employees’ Pension Reform Act of 2013(PEPRA). Pension benefit determined by final average compensation of three years. County pays a portion of retirement contribution and participates in Social Security.


Life Insurance and Long Term Disability Plan

County paid $50,000 term life insurance policy. Employee may purchase additional life insurance. The County pays for a long term disability plan that pays 66 2/3 % of the first $13,500 up to $9,000 per month maximum benefits.
