Western City - A Great Way to Market Services and Products to Local Government

Western City is the monthly digital publication of the League of California Cities, the lobbying, professional, and educational organization of city officials throughout the Golden State. The Western City website and monthly newsletters deliver timely, online opportunities to advertise your products, services, and solutions to cities.

The digital magazine is shared each month with all elected city officials and major department heads throughout California’s 482 cities, including mayors and council members, city managers, police and fire chiefs, finance directors, purchasing directors, state legislators and the California congressional delegation, among other people that you need to reach and influence.

Website advertising

Homepage leaderboard banner (exclusive), $950 per month, 970×90, 72 dpi: Top placement on homepage, runs for 30 days. Must be reserved in advance.

Homepage standard size, $600 per month, 300×250, 72 dpi: Above the fold ad on homepage, runs for 30 days. Must be reserved in advance

Run of site, tall, $750 for 30 days, 300×600, 72 dpi: Appears “below the fold” in left-hand column on homepage. Also appears on all main landing pages. Ad rotates with tall and standard size ads in same location at a regular intervals. 

Run of site, standard, $500 for 30 days, 300×250, 72 dpi: Appears “below the fold” in left-hand column on homepage. Also appears on all main landing pages. Ad rotates with tall and standard size ads in same location at a regular intervals. Runs for 30 days.

Job board advertising

Standard size, $600 for 30 days, 300×250, 72 dpi: Standard size ad runs on job description pages on the job board. Ad rotates with standard size ads in same location at a regular intervals. NOTE: this ad differs from a job opening post.

Targeted article advertising

Standard size, $200 for 30 days, 300×250, 72 dpi: Placed on desired article page (Feature, Local Works, Legal Notes, etc.) Not applicable for President or Executive Director message articles. Exclusive placement.

Newsletter advertising

$400 per newsletter, 600×125: Placed in the monthly magazine preview newsletter email. Limit two per month. Must be reserved in advance. View sample.

 

 

 

File specifications and recommendations

  • File Format should be RGB at 72 dpi.
  • URL redirect link required with ad submission
  • Artwork due 1 week before the ad run start date
  • Artwork may not be changed mid-run
  • Ads with white backgrounds should have a thin stroke border

Advertorials

$1,000 per month: Advertisement article up to 1000 words with up to three photos (primary image orientation must be landscape). Runs as an article, indicated as “advertisement.” Teaser text and image placed on the homepage and in the monthly magazine preview newsletter email. Must be reserved in advance and only available to participants of the League of California Cities Partner Program. 

  • Advertorial content should be written in the style of an article that discusses the benefits to be experienced by the consumer of the product/service (as opposed to the features of the product/service) and ideally will include real-life scenarios or case studies to demonstrate effectiveness.
  • Advertorial should be written in accordance with Associated Press style guidelines.
  • Advertorial must be reviewed and approved by Western City editor-in-chief. 
  • The advertiser must be willing to make requested revisions and work collaboratively with the Western City staff.
  • Published advertorial will include a header that clearly says, “Advertisement.”  
  • Content due by copy deadline.
